David Recht attended Bellaire High School in Houston, Texas. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1998 (Class of 1997). In 2004, he graduated from Columbia University in the City of New York with a Master’s in Urban Planning from the architecture school. In 2014, he won the distinguished “Excellence in Teaching” award, at the University of Virginia, for his two-year contribution to a general civil engineering course for second year students in Charlottesville, Virginia.
His background is municipal and general civil engineering. He worked in public works at the City of Dallas for 10 years, as the project manager for the Hampton Road Bridge over the Trinity River, the McKinney Avenue Trolley loop in downtown Dallas, the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Green Line from downtown to Fair Park, the Oak Cliff Streetcar over the Houston Street Viaduct, and the Katy Trail Bridges over Skillman Road, Abrams Road, and, most notably, the cable-stayed bridge spanning Mockingbird Lane.
David is a professional engineer registered with the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors (PELS).
David is a proud husband, father, dog lover, reader of print newspapers, and lifelong Houston Astros fan.
